Job Summary: Full-TimeMOHsHistotechnician at our Altamont office. They are responsible for preparing tissue specimens for pathological examination; helping maintain laboratory equipment; training in the use of new laboratory equipment; performing routine histology procedures; preparing solutions required for any histological examination; plus, all related job duties as assigned. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
NYS pathology lab and Mohs clinic providers and staff positions are mandated W-2 employment status positions as required by applicable laws and regulations.
Schedule: Full time, 30+ hours. Availability Monday through Friday with rotating Saturdays between operating hours of 7am-7pm (Dependent on Surgeons Schedule). Open Flexibility to help cover in a team environment is needed.
Compensation: $500 DPR for first 6 cases and $75 for each additional
Summary of Essential Histology/Dermatology Job Functions:
- Specimen handling, storage, preservation, and identification
- Freezing tissue and cutting frozen sections with a microtome
- Staining and placing tissue on slides
- Labeling and storage of slides
- Preparation and mixing solutions used in MOHS lab
- Use and handling of all materials and reagents
- Disposal of stains and cleaning of glass containers and Petri dishes
- Maintenance and review of all equipment and materials in the lab
- Maintaining and updating OSHA and CLIA records
- Recording daily temperatures of cryostat
- Participating in relative studies by maintaining proper records
- Ensuring a safe environment in the lab according to OSHA standards (i.e. changing fume hood filters, safety glasses, gloves, etc.)
- Maintaining quality control logs for slide review
- Maintaining log for patient identification system
- Performs related work as required
- Ensures service excellence by becoming thoroughly familiar with the Seven Principles of behavior and putting them into practice in carrying out job responsibilities
- Conforms to all applicable HIPAA, billing compliance and safety guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Active and valid Histotechnician License may be required based on state guidelines.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Applicable State Department of Professions Registration Certificate
- Interpersonal/human relations skills
- Ability to operate personal computer
- Ability to approach problems/decisions analytically
- Ability to maintain records
- Ability/willingness to adhere to the established departmental service standards
