The Mohs Surgery Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Mohs Surgeon during procedures, ensuring a smooth surgical workflow, maintaining a sterile environment, and providing post-operative care instructions to patients. This role involves assisting in patient preparation, procedural support, wound care, and documentation. The Mohs Surgery Medical Assistant is also responsible for maintaining surgical instruments, processing pathology specimens, and ensuring compliance with clinic policies and regulatory standards. Additionally, this role may require cross-training in the Mohs laboratory to assist with tissue processing as needed.
Schedule: 16-19 hours per week
Tuesdays & Wednesdays:7:45am - 5pm

Responsibilities- Clinical Duties:
- Prepare exam and procedure rooms for Mohs micrographic surgery and other surgical and medical visits, ensuring proper setup of procedural instruments and efficient clinic flow.
- Assist the Mohs surgeon during all stages of the procedure, including pre-operative care, tissue preparation, hemostasis, wound closure, and post-operative care.
- Perform patient intake, including obtaining medical history, reviewing consent forms, obtaining surgical photographs, and addressing pre-procedure concerns.
- Provide wound care instructions and educate patients on post-procedure expectations.
- Process and handle tissue specimens for pathology evaluation according to protocol.
- Ensure proper documentation of procedures, medications, MIPS and follow-up instructions in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Administrative & Patient Support Duties:
- Schedule pre- and post-operative appointments and assist with patient inquiries.
- Confirm patient insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations if required.
- Accurately complete patient charting and documentation.
- Pathology log management: Act as liaison between physician and patient to deliver of pathology results and to complete communication documentation according to protocol
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Records required information in compliance logs (pathology, biopsy, laboratory, temperature).
- Adhere and maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards.
- Completes mandatory compliance training.
- Cross-Training & Additional Responsibilities:
- May be required to cross-train in the Mohs laboratory to fulfill histotechnology components to the extent allowed by state specific CLIA requirements.
- May be required to cross-train in General and Cosmetic Dermatology.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEDUCATION
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Experience: 1-2 years of recent experience in a dermatology or surgical setting preferred.
- Certifications: CMA, RMA, LVN, LPN preferred
- Technical Skills:
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred.
- Knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical assisting best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with patients and clinical teams.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment.
- Professional demeanor and commitment to patient-centered care.
- Travel: Must be willing to travel to other clinic locations as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move efficiently in a surgical setting.
- Ability to lift and transport supplies up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to operate all necessary job-related office and medical equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
