What we are looking for:
A Lead Histotechnician to serve as a lead technical resource for histology staff and supports daily laboratory workflow, quality, compliance, and staff development. This role works closely with pathologists, laboratory technicians, grossing technicians, supervisors, and laboratory leadership to maintain productivity, quality standards, and turnaround time expectations.
What you'll do:
Serve as a lead technical resource for histology staff regarding embedding, microtomy, staining procedures, immunohistochemistry, and slide quality standards when the supervisor is not present.
Coordinate daily histology workflow assignments to maintain productivity, slide quality, and turnaround time expectations.
Work closely with pathologists, laboratory technicians, grossing technicians, supervisors, and laboratory management to prioritize cases and address workflow needs.
Monitor and review slide quality, staining consistency, tissue integrity, and recut/IHC requests to support accurate diagnosis.
Assist with troubleshooting histology instrumentation, staining systems, tissue processing concerns, and quality control issues.
Act as a second resource to the supervisor by providing training, onboarding, technical guidance, and competency support for histotechnicians and cross-trained laboratory staff.
Ensure compliance with laboratory procedures, histology protocols, CLIA, OSHA, and safety regulations.
Assist with maintenance schedules, reagent preparation, inventory management, and equipment documentation within the histology department.
Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory leadership to support continuous improvement initiatives, workflow efficiency, and quality outcomes.

Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree (Preferred) or at minimum must have 60 college credits to include 12 science credits (6 chemistry; 6 biology).
All interested candidates must be certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
Minimum of two years of related laboratory experience as a technician, preferably in a physician practice or ambulatory environment.
Work environment and physical requirements:
Laboratory environments may include exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, biohazards, or toxic substances. Daily activities may include standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting items up to 30 lbs. Frequent use of laboratory equipment and handling of patient specimens is required.
