Dermatology of Seattle is currently seeking to add a Histotech with Mohs experience to our dermatology practice.

The ideal candidate will have an HT certification with ASCP; HTL certification is preferred. The candidate must have successful training in grossing of pathology specimens by an experienced Histologist or physician’s assistant. In addition, possessing an above-average sense of organization, priorities, and initiative is essential. The candidate must also have legible handwriting and the ability to deal with numbers with a high level of accuracy, as well as be competent with a PC.

DUTIES FOR GROSSING:

Accession samples using Accessioning Procedure.
Give an accurate description of the gross specimen using measurements and adjectives that create a visual picture for the physician as to how the specimen appeared upon arrival.
Section tissue samples for processing.
Maintain the integrity and identification of each sample through the use of accessioning numbers.
Rotation of tissue material preservation according to the CLIA guidelines.
Order supplies and reagents for grossing area as needed.
Record the daily Accession count.
Load prepared tissue samples onto the tissue processor.

DUTIES FOR HISTOLOGY:

Prepare tissue specimens by embedding into blocks.
Cut tissue blocks preparing the H&E slides. Slides must be of good technical quality.
Perform special stains as requested by the providers.
Maintain the required stains and reagents for the routine and special procedures done in histology.
Maintain proper records of all specimens received, special procedures done, filing of blocks, temporary storage of tissue specimens and discarding of these specimens.
Perform daily and monthly routine machine maintenance necessary for proper functioning of the laboratory equipment.
Maintain a neat and safe working environment.
Perform any additional duties that are requested or necessary to complete the operation of the histology laboratory.
Confirm to the CLIA and OSHA regulations.
Perform all the duties of MOHS SURGERY including embedding, cutting, and staining of fresh tissue.
Perform all daily, monthly and yearly preventive maintenance checks on all relevant equipment.
