Summary
A dermatology nurse ensures patients can help with wound treatment, skin injuries, and other skin disorders. They provide support to healthcare providers for procedures based in the office, the outpatient setting, and inpatient facilities. Dermatology nurses provide outstanding patient support, nursing care, and comprehensive education.
Job Responsibilities
- Verifying patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history and confirming purpose of visit.
- Entering medical history and visit information into EHR
- Preparing patients for examination.
- Escorting patients to exam room.
- Asking pertinent medical questions and documenting into EHR.
- Preparing patient for exam by providing them with drapes and other materials to ensure they are prepared for the visit when the Physician enters the room.
- Taking photographs.
- Assisting physician during medical examination and procedures.
- Entering relevant information into EHR.
- Schedule medical procedures
- Instruct patients on proper usage of medications
- Phone in prescriptions to various pharmacies
- Change the dressing on wounds and even removing sutures
- Collect lab specimens
- Sterilize medical instruments
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Maintaining safe, secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license for the state of MI
- Prior experience in medical office preferred
- Ability to learn related center tasks and be of assistance to management and physicians.
- Self-motivated to achieve the highest patient care and customer service standards.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
- Familiarity with the ModMed EMA EMR is strongly preferred.
- Thorough understanding of HIPAA law
