Golden State Dermatology is a physician-led and owned dermatology group rapidly expanding across California, with over 37 locations. We are a leading medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology group specializing in skin, hair, and nail conditions, Mohs micrographic surgery for the treatment of skin cancer, surgical and non-surgical cosmetic skincare, anti-aging, body contouring, and plastic surgery.
We are seeking a full-time Medical Assistant / Patient Care Coordinator to join our plastic surgery practice. This is a unique dual-role position combining hands-on clinical support with surgical patient coordination. You will work closely with one primary plastic surgeon in a well- supported, collaborative practice environment.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys patient interaction, thrives in a fast-paced surgical setting, and is interested in both clinical care and guiding patients through the surgical process.
Travel between our Walnut Creek and San Francisco offices is required.
Medical Assistant Responsibilities
Prepare, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms
Review patient histories, medications, and visit reasons; document in EMR
Assist the surgeon during in-office procedures and surgical visits
Ensure accurate clinical documentation and quality measures
Assist with scheduling tests, treatments, and follow-up appointments
Process prescription refills and maintain pathology/biopsy logs
Perform autoclave cleaning, spore testing, and compliance tracking
Support front desk operations as needed
Patient Care Coordinator Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for surgical patients
Educate patients on procedures, recovery expectations, and timelines
Provide clear and accurate surgical price quotes
Confidently and ethically guide patients through surgical decision-making
Schedule surgeries and coordinate pre- and post-operative care
Ensure completion of consents, documentation, and pre-op requirements
Maintain consistent communication with patients throughout their care
Collaborate closely with the surgeon and clinical team to ensure seamless care
Qualifications
Medical Assistant training or certification preferred but not required
Prior experience in plastic surgery, dermatology, aesthetics, or healthcare desired but not required
Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills
Comfortable discussing procedures and pricing with patients
Sales-oriented mindset grounded in patient education, trust, and ethical advocacy
Professional, compassionate, and patient-focused demeanor
Ability to travel between Walnut Creek and San Francisco offices
