What we are looking for:
Surgical Coordinators are instrumental in providing a variety of support functions critical to the scheduling of surgeries for specified providers and locations. This position requires professional behavior and communicating effectively with others. Must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care and in accordance with provider specifications and guidelines. The Surgical Coordinator maintains efficient surgical scheduling and is instrumental in verifying patient insurance benefits and eligibility. Auditing schedules to ensure eligibility is current and active and any required referrals and/or documentation are available in the patient record. The ideal candidate should be totally comfortable demonstrating competency in all skills related to patient care and it’s a real bonus if you can do this with a smile and positive attitude.
What you'll do:
Provides excellent customer service to all customers/patients, referring providers and healthcare professionals, both in person, telephonically, and in writing.
Contact review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met. Present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis and prognosis. Provide specific medical information to financial services to maximize reimbursement.
Assist patients in problem solving potential issues related to the health care system, financial or social barriers (e.g., request interpreters as appropriate, transportation services or prescription assistance).
Be the system navigator and point of contact for patients and families, with patients and families having direct access for asking questions and raising concerns. May assume advocate role on the patient's behalf with the carrier to ensure approval of the necessary supplies/services for the patient in a timely manner.
Manages incoming phone calls, emails, messages and referrals to resolution in a timely fashion.
Maintains medical records with timely input of incoming scans, documents or test results.
Works with healthcare team to assure smooth and efficient patient flow and operations. Problem solves obstacles to through-put process to resolve undue backlogs and wait times. Reports and documents unresolved concerns.
Willingness to help where coverage is need, ensuring completing of assigned tasks, ensuring completing of time-sensitive delegated tasks, which includes, but not limited to, requests for prescription refills per protocols, patient letters and/or EMR messages.
Participate in staff meetings and provide constructive input for improvements and solutions.

It’ll help to have/be:
Able to adjust personal availability according to volume changes and activity surges
The ability to adhere to a compliance program and HIPAA standards and policies
Able to receive and apply constructive input for performance improvement and growth.
Knowledge of insurance industry and strong computer skills highly desired.
Qualifications/Experience:
High School Diploma required.
Two (2) years of experience as a medical receptionist highly preferred, preferably in a medical practice or ambulatory environment.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Medical office, procedure/exam room and laboratory environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, biohazards or toxic substances. Daily activities may include standing, walking, sitting, bending and lifting items up to 30 lbs.
