Reporting to the Chief Compliance & Privacy Officer, the Compliance Team Lead will support and advance its enterprise compliance and privacy programs across a growing, multi-state dermatology group with pathology labs. This role is designed for an experienced healthcare compliance professional who is ready to step into a team leadership position while remaining actively engaged in investigations, risk oversight, auditing, provider education, and field-based compliance assessments. The role also serves as a key operational leader responsible for translating regulatory, risk, and privacy requirements into practical, actionable guidance for clinical and business teams. This role functions as a bridge between compliance strategy and day-to-day execution, supporting consistent compliance practices across the organization. This position may be remotely based in one of the states in which Anne Arundel Dermatology operates (PA, MD, VA, NC, TN, GA, FL), with periodic travel to clinical sites required to provide onsite compliance support, conduct assessments, and engage directly with providers and operational leaders.
Salary Range: $82,000- $95,000k, depending upon experience
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Oversight
- Provide functional leadership, coaching, and day-to-day oversight for members of the compliance team
- Assist with workload prioritization, issue escalation, and coordination of compliance activities
- Support onboarding, training, and professional development of compliance staff
- Promote a consistent, collaborative, and solutions-oriented compliance culture
Investigations & Issue Management
- Oversee intake, triage, documentation, and tracking of compliance investigations
- Partner with HR, Revenue Cycle and Operations on sensitive or complex matters
- Assist with responses to audits, regulatory inquiries, subpoenas, and external agency requests
- Support development and monitoring of corrective action plans
Risk Management & Claims Oversight
- Support compliance oversight related to submitting, tracking and monitoring professional liability (PL) and general liability (GL) claims
- Assist with issue trending, root cause analysis, and identification of systemic risk areas
- Provide compliance education informed by denials, claims trends and adverse events
Vendor & Third-Party Oversight
- Support compliance oversight of vendors and third-party relationships, exclusions monitoring and BAA management.
- Assist with vendor-related investigations, issue remediation, and documentation
Clinical Compliance & Onsite Assessments
- Conduct onsite clinical visits to assess compliance with regulatory, billing, documentation, and operational requirements
- Perform structured compliance assessments and follow-up reviews
- Partner with clinical leadership to address findings and support remediation efforts
Billing, Coding & CLIA Oversight
- Provide compliance guidance related to dermatology-specific billing, coding, and medical necessity requirements
- Conduct QA reviews on internal billing/coding audits completed
- Work proactively with Revenue Cycle team on billing/coding trends
- Support compliance oversight of in-office laboratories, including CLIA-related requirements
Education, Instructional Design & Communication
- Design and deliver ad hoc and targeted compliance training for providers and staff
- Apply instructional design principles to develop effective education materials and review annual required regulatory compliance and safety training
Privacy & Conflict of Interest Programs
- Support the organization’s privacy program, including incident response and education
- Support administration and monitoring of the Conflict of Interest (COI) program
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Travel up to 35%
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of healthcare compliance, privacy, and risk frameworks
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Experience utilizing electronic medical record platforms, M365 office suite applications, Adobe Pro, video meeting platforms such as MS Teams and/or Zoom
- Experience with investigations, risk management, or claims-related compliance work
- Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, including senior management and providers.
- Ability to lead and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
- Experience with responding to/interacting with external regulatory agencies such as DOH, CLIA, CMS, TJC, Physician Boards, OCR, etc.
- Self-starter who can lead projects independently from inception to completion with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Dermatology or procedure-based specialty experience
- Coding, billing compliance, privacy, or information security background
- Relevant certifications (CHC, CPC, CCS, CHPC, CIPP, or similar)
- Experience working directly with clinical providers and/or operations
- Experience with Compliance software solutions for hotline/investigations, auditing, exclusions monitoring, LMS, etc.
- Experience with data analytic tools such as Tableau and Power BI
- Clinical background or prior clinical-facing role
Licensure/Certifications/Education
- Bachelor’s degree required (advanced or clinical degree a plus)
- Minimum of seven (7) years of healthcare experience
