Job Title: Medical Assistant (Dermatology) - Sarasota, FL
Schedule/Hours: Monday - Friday (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
Position Type: Full-Time
We are hiring a Dermatology Medical Assistant to join our team at Academic Alliance in Dermatology in Sarasota, FL. Academic Alliance is a proud partner of Anne Arundel Dermatology, a premier network of top-tier skin care providers. In this role, you will partner closely with our clinical team to support both general and cosmetic dermatology services.
While dermatology experience is preferred, it is not required. If you have Medical Assistant experience in any specialty (such as Urgent Care, Primary Care, Pediatrics, or OBGYN) and a passion for patient care, we are fully prepared to train you and encourage you to apply!

Responsibilities
What You'll Do
Patient Care & Intake: Greet patients, obtain medical histories, and accurately document all intake information within the EMA (Modernizing Medicine) EMR system.
Clinical Assistance: Provide hands-on assistance during dermatology procedures, including biopsies, excisions, and other in-office treatments. Assist with numbing patients.
Room & Schedule Prep: Coordinate patient flow to maintain an efficient schedule, prepare exam/procedure rooms, organize instruments, and set up trays based on provider needs.
Lab & Pathology: Process laboratory and pathology specimens, ensuring accurate labeling and proper routing. Follow up with patients regarding pathology results and coordinate next steps.
Communication & Admin: Manage clinical communications (provider inbox tasks, triage messages, voicemails, faxes, and internal requests). Support documentation by scribing during visits as needed.
Compliance & Inventory: Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of instruments following OSHA and infection control standards. Track clinical inventory, remove expired items, and replenish stock.

Qualifications
Experience: Previous experience as a Medical Assistant OR a strong academic background as a Post-Bacc / Pre-Health student seeking clinical experience. (CMA, RMA, or CCMA certification is a plus but not required).
Clinical Skills: Skilled in obtaining vital signs, prioritizing patient concerns, and safely administering injections in a clinical setting.
Technical Proficiency: Comfortable working with computers, scanners, and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. Familiarity with medical terminology.
Soft Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills (fluent in English) with a sharp attention to detail.
Adaptability: Ability to perform effectively in a fast-moving, collaborative environment while maintaining strict professionalism and HIPAA confidentiality.
Licensure/Certifications/Education
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program, or a bachelor’s degree in a pre-med or pre-PA track, is preferred
- Previous hands-on clinical experience (1-2 years preferred) in a Medical Assistant (CMA), CNA, or similar patient care role
- Dermatology experience is beneficial but not required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain on your feet and move throughout the clinic for extended periods
- Frequent movement including bending, reaching, twisting, and maintaining balance
- Regular use of hands for clinical and administrative tasks
- Clear communication both in person and over the phone
- Handling everyday clinical materials and supplies
- Ability to lift or move items up to approximately 30 pounds
- Exposure to clinical environments, including potential contact with biohazards, chemicals, and sharp instruments
