Summary
The Accessioning Technician I performs an essential role in the specimen life cycle at the lab. Technicians are responsible for sorting incoming specimens at the lab and documenting them accurately in the Laboratory Information Systems. This role partners closely with the grossing team to prepare and deliver slide materials.
Job Responsibilities
- Sort incoming specimens from various clinics.
- Document incoming shipments and their contents, keeping records of any errors.
- Call clinic sites or provider to validate information as needed.
- Verify that the information included in the requisition matches the information listed on the bottle of wet specimen.
- Ensure that all relevant patient and specimen information is logged in the LIS (ClearPath/Intellipath).
- Prepare trays containing slides and deliver them to the grossing team
- Enter DIF immunofluorescence information into the Mayo Clinic Database when applicable.
- Sign off on emptied specimen bags.
- Provide couriers with materials to transport between the lab and clinic sites as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma (required)
- Prior experience with data entry or billing (preferred)
- Knowledge of medical terminology knowledge (preferred)
Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
