Overview
North Atlanta Dermatology is hiring a PRN Medical Assistant (2-3 days per week) to support our Buford & Cumming locations with medical, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology appointments.
Shift schedule: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (1 hour lunch)
** Shifts are not guaranteed - but usually will get around 2-3 days per week.
Medical Assistant experience in any specialty is welcome; dermatology experience is a plus but not required. This is a great opportunity for pre-med, pre-PA, or post-bacc students in a gap year seeking hands-on clinical experience; however, candidates should have some prior clinical or patient-facing healthcare experience.

Responsibilities
What You'll Do
Escort patients to exam rooms and confirm name and date of birth
Obtain and record vital signs, medical history, and chief complaint
- Scribe for providers during patient visits
Assist provider with in-office dermatology procedures (biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, injections, wound care)
Set up procedure trays, instruments, and equipment
Prepare, label, and route pathology and lab specimens according to insurance guidelines
Document clinical notes and provider instructions in the EMR
Provide post-procedure and wound-care instructions to patients
Sterilize instruments, maintain infection control standards, and restock exam rooms
Monitor nurse line / tasking and respond to patient questions as directed
Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality at all times
Qualifications
What You'll Bring
- Able to triage patient problems.
- Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
- Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
- Experience administering injections.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Knowledge of office financial policies.
- Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
- Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluent in English
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful
- Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
- Use of hands and fingers.
- Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
- Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
- Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
Licensure/Certifications/Education
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, or a bachelor’s degree in a pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred
- 1-2 years of recent experience in a Medical Assistant, CNA, or similar hands-on patient care role preferred
- Dermatology experience is a plus

- Regular use of hands and fingers for clinical tasks
- Communicating effectively in person and over the phone
- Handling office and clinical materials (e.g., paperwork, supplies)
